Dear teacher:
I don't know how to use these two words. For Chinese student, we often translate Chinese to English directly. When the answer is not so confirmed. Are there something difference for oral and for formal? How to use correctly?
Thanks a lot.

May is a verb that means a few things.
It can indicate permission. Example: You may go outside.
It can indicate likelihood. Example: I may go to the store today.
It can be used to indicate obligation. This usage is typically very formal, and only used in legal documents.
It can indicate some sort of wish. Example: May you live long and prosper.
It can indicate ability. Example: You may not understand the homework.
Maybe is an adverb that indicates possibility. |
