What does "the familiar trappings of a political campaign" mean?
With his presidency four days ahead of him, Barack Obama returned to the familiar trappings of a political campaign on Friday as he traveled here to pitch his economic recovery plan as a vehicle for creating jobs and stirring the nation from its recession.

It means the visible signs or objects associated with a particular situation, or role.
So, this just means he's doing the usual boring stuff of blowing smoke at the electorate, instead of anything new and exciting. |
