| Can "develop the ability to think independently" be put this way, "develop independent thinking ability"? Would anyone mind telling me about the usage of "ability"? Thanks. |

| Both phrases convey the same meaning. The difference is that in the first example, the verb "think" is in infinitive form, and it modifies the noun "ability." In the second example, "independent thinking ability" is being treated as one entire noun phrase. |
