1.Clint Eastwood tells the story of a *grizzled* Korean War vet's reluctant friendship with a Hmong teenage boy and his immigrant family.

Grey and dark?

2.
That is to say, there is nothing subtle about Walt's bigotry, yet his misanthropy knows no bounds, and Eastwood does a remarkable job of finding the humor in Walt's equal *opportunity racism.*

What is that?
3.
*hard-going*
Sorry I forgot the context!

Thank you,teachers.

1. "Grizzled" means having gray hair (French for gray is gris). Anyone with gray hair is older, maybe a little gruff and set in his ways -- like me.

2. The phrase comes from "equal opportunity employer," someone who will give a job to anyone, regardless of race, color, or creed (belief). Here, it is used to mean that Eastwood will be prejudiced against anyone -- or more likely, anyone who is not a white man like himself.

3. Sorry, haven't heard of hard-going.

hard going is usually used to mean that the situation is difficult to overcome.

it can have a literal meaning.

' the terrible weather made the journey to Seoul hard going'

or a more idimatic meaning

' the meeting today about the financial problems was really hard going'

' Jan is finding his life hard going since he broke up with Sue.'
