The violinist is saying that she doesn't want to change how she plays, in order to be popular. She loves and enjoys playing classical music, even though she might make more money or become more well-known if she played other kinds of music. She prefers to continue to do what she loves, rather than what others have done.
In this sentence, "compromise" means that she would be settling for a lower standard, or altering her values, by doing something different.
