Hello.
When people say "... use by businesses and the wider community ", what exactly "wider community" mean? The same as "the public"?

Hello!
Yes, "the public" could be another way of saying "the wider community.' What the author means is that something can be used outside of a business or professional setting.
Examples:
Computers were designed for business use, but are now in the wider community. Nearly every home has one.
Many medical devices, such as digital thermometers, were first used in the health care setting. Now, parents in the wider community use them to check their child's temperature.
