| "Declare," "announce," "pronounce" and "proclaim" confuse me. Are there any importance differences in their meanings and usage? Please help. Thanks. |

They are all very close synonyms.
Do you have a good Advanced learner's dictionary? If so, you should look up the words in that and look for the different collocations that each have. This will give you an indication regarding the usage of them.
For example, you can declare war, but you cannot announce, pronounce or proclaim it.
You can make announce the winner of a competition, but it would be unusual to pronounce or proclaim the winner.
I'll leave it to you to look at those common collocations in your dictionary. |
