Hello,
Can someone please explain the difference between "roast" and "grill" for me? Is it to do with the origin of the heat: the heat comes from all directions when you "roast" and the heat comes from above or below when you "grill"?
Thank you,
Nawee |

Hello, Nawee!
You are correct!
"To roast" means to bake in the oven, so the heat comes from all directions. The meat, or other food, is not covered.
Some examples of roasted food: roast beef, roasted chicken, and roasted vegetables.
"To grill" means to cook on a hot surface, or on a special apparatus that cooks one surface of meat, or other food, at a time. "To grill" is similar to "to broil."
Some examples of grilled food: grilled cheese sandwiches, grilled shish-kebobs, and grilled hamburgers.
Grilling often takes place outdoors, on a special cooking device called "a grill." People especially enjoy grilling in the summer. They grill hamburgers, hotdogs, fish, steaks, chicken, and all sorts of vegetables. This type of cooking is also called "barbeque."
I hope this helps! |
