I saw #1 in a book.
1. Does the second sentence of #1 make sense? If so, what does it mean?
2. I think that #2 is correct rather than #1. Am I right?

The original is right. "They had been to see movies" is the same as "They had gone to see movies."
The rest of the sentence borrows the first part, "They had," and continues with other past participles, "they had gone shopping and they had eaten ice cream together." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
