Dear teacher:

I read an article and have a question.
I don't understand the meaning of the sentence "I haven't the foggiest
idea what he thinks abuout".
Could you please tell me what does it mean?
Thanks a lot!

Best wishes,
Phyllis Smile

Hi,

If you haven't the foggiest idea about something, you have absolutely no idea whatsoever. You don't have a clue. We also simply say somebody hasn't the foggiest. Americans are a bit more inclined to say someone doesn't have the foggiest idea about something, which is just a slight variance between British and American English. For example, a Brit might say "I haven't any money," but Yanks would invariabley say "I don't have any money."
