Please help me with the following sentence.
A Nato helicopter has reportedly been dispatched from a Canadian warship to investigate what is happening to the merchant vessel, flagged in Saint-Vincent and the Grenadines.
What does "flagged" mean here? Is its usage the same with "the Liberian-flagged Safmarine Asia"? Would you mind giving more examples?
Thanks a lot. |

| Yes, it's the same. Ships originally carried their national flags, but now they are often registered in small countries with less stringent rules and taxes, the so-called "flags of convenience" countries. |
