Do you want to try skydiving?
__________.
A. No possibility B. No way C. No doubt D. No sense.
Could I choose A?
Is A a proper answer from the point of a native's view? |
Of course, the common answer is B, as I'm sure you know. Is A proper? Well, I'd say it wouldn't be the normal or expected response.
Here's the thing, though. We play around with our language all the time. It's not hard for me to close my eyes and imagine this conversation occurring with the phrase No possibility, and the meaning in context is absolutely crystal clear. It would be like saying "There is no possibility of me jumping out of a perfectly good airplane! Are you out of your mind!?"
In fact, I can imagine someone using No doubt. Again, it's not the typical or expected response; but just as with No possibility, I can close my eyes and imagine that conversation occurring. And once again, in context the meaning is absolutely crystal clear: "Wow, I would love to try skydiving! There is no doubt that I would try that! It sounds exciting!"
Would I choose A or C on an English test? No way.
If any other teachers have a different take on this, be my guest.
