Hello,

I just read an article in Advanced, there is the santance: Most of us can stick with a diet, stick with exercise, and get more work done for our employer if we energize ourselves with joyful thoughts and feelings.

Whats the meaning of stick with here? I cant realize it.

Thanks for your help.
Best wishes

Hi,

If you stick with something (and we also often say you stick to something), you continue to do it, follow it, use it, etc. It can be used in a variety of situations.

If you stick with a diet, you continue to ignore that chocolate cake in the refrigerator as you reach for the celery and lettuce on a regular basis.

If you stick with exercise or an exercise program, you continue to do your aerobics or go jogging on a regular basis.

If you stick with a product, you believe in the quality and utility of that product and have no intention of switching to a different brand. You continue to use it and purchase more of it (or them) on a regular basis.

Think about a band-aid. It's sticky. You get a cut on your arm. You stick a band-aid on the cut. That band-aid sticks to your arm; it doesn't fall off or come off easily. It sticks. You are that band-aid; whatever you stick with is your arm.

Hope this helps.

Greg
