In other words, the Yankees are not going to go to a four-man rotation, as opposed to the current five-man rotation. Currently their rotation is C.C. Sabathia, Joba Chamberlain, Wang Chieh-ming, A.J. Burnett, and Andy Pettitte. They are discussing the fate of Wang, who has been disastrously ineffective in his first three starts this season. So if they pitch a man short, their starting rotation would just be Sabathia, Chamberlain, Burnett, and Pettitte. Major League teams these days very seldom go with a four-man rotation unless absolutely necessary.
