Why do you say, "malignant disease or growth" and "benign growth" instead of "malign growth"?
malign: benign = malignant: benevolent |

All four of the adjectives malign/malignant and benign/benignant are used; however, for reasons that are unknown to me, the words benign and malignant are by far the more frequently used words in medical contexts.
