In the following sentence, what "commitment" means?
"The mind/body split is not only one of our strongest beliefs, it is a dangerous and premature psychological commitment. (....) State of mind shapes state of body"
Thank you in advance. |

In this context, the writer used the word commitment to suggest that this idea of the clear separation between mind and body is something that we seem to believe strongly and instinctively; so much so that it's almost as if we make a commitment to this belief. However, it is a dangerous and premature idea to commit ourselves to believing in, since one's mental state certainly does influence one's body.
Or something like that.
Hope this makes sense.
