Please help check out the following questions about "Infinitive."

1. When hearing the good news from the radio, the girl __________ laugh.
(A) burst into (B) couldn�t but (C) had no choice but to (D) couldn�t help
The answer is (B), but how about (C)?

2. It is time that you __________ home. Don�t stay at school too late.
(A) to go (B) go (C) went (D) gone
The answer is (C), but how about (B)?

No, (C) is wrong because saying she had no choice but to laugh makes it sound as if someone were forcing her to laugh...as if someone had put a gun to her head and said "Laugh!"

For example, if you got a traffic ticket you might say "I had no choice but to pay the fine."
