Dear teacher,

If I were a transfer student.

Administration's Office in our school asks me

to take a course regarding literature,

but I have already taken this(related) course before in the former college.

So how do I do to tell them? I do not know how to say...

The course can be exempted from attending again?

The course can be counteracted?

Are there any formal expressions?

Any references?

It sounds to me like you want the university to give you credit for the course you took. I have no idea about the policies of the university in question, but ordinarily you may be given credit for a previous course if the content of that course is substantially similar to a course offered at the present university. That, of course, is a judgment call on the part of the university.

If you are given credit for your previous course, you are exempt from having to take the course they are asking you to take. Whatever you say, don't use the word counteract. It has absolutely nothing to do with this situation. The word counteract means to reduce the effect of something by doing something else that has the opposite effect. For example:

Tom drank some coffee to counteract the drowsiness caused by the cold medicine he had taken.

So, just tell them: "I'd to know if I can be given credit for that literature class."

Good luck.

Greg
