While I saw #1 in a book, I don't think #1 is correct. I think #2 is more reasonable than #1.
Could you tell me which one is right, #1 or #2?

The first one should read hardworking or hard-working. It's an adjective that describes someone who customarily works hard. It really shouldn't be written hard working because that tends to lead people to make the same mistake you just made: mistaking it for an adverb + verb combination. Except for that, it is correct.

The second sentence is also correct, but has a somewhat different meaning. It emphasizes that she is working hard these days, or during the current time period. For example, it might be the case that she is a new teacher and that she is currently working hard to become a competent, seasoned teacher at the school.

Hope this makes sense.
