He moved to Hollywood, promising to find his fortune . But he didnt make it . For almost 10 years, he drove a taxi and worded as a waiter, 42 at an actors workshop that he opened in Hollywood. But Moresco kept working at his chosen career.
A. practising B. volunteering

The answer is B. I cannot understand why the author volunteered when the workshop was opened by him.

Thanks

Jason

It seems none of us really understand the passage very clearly, because it really doesn't make any sense as it stands. On the surface of it, I would tend to agree with you. Why would you say a person volunteered at an actor's workshop that he himself started? Seems awfully odd to me. I really don't get it. Maybe the word volunteer is used because he doesn't make any money doing it. However, even if that were the case, I still wouldn't use the word volunteer. Or else it's just a bad question.

Anyway, I just want to confirm that it is a confusing sentence.

So it is not MY PROBLEM.

Thank you. Sorry for such a rubbish question.

Volunteering could be considered to be the correct answer, if you think that the subject of the question (you are right that it seems to be just taken from a newspaper, magazine or biography with no context) is freely giving up his time to help others. This is pretty much the world viewed spirit behind volunteering.
