"Later, he abstracted his figure to suc a degree that both eyes rested on one side of his face."

In this sentence, what's the grammatical functionf of 'that'?

I think 'that' seems to be a 'relative adverb' . But if so. I don't know what other relative can be replaced with 'that' which can be replaced with relative adverb "when, where, why, how".

You got a very good answer for this exact same question at wordreference.com, so why should I waste my time busting my brain over it? Posting the same question at multiple forums is called "trolling" and it tends to annoy some teachers. I have known for a long time that this is your habit. So, no offense, but I personally think I'll simply pass on your questions from now on, since I'll assume you've already received a perfectly competent answer elsewhere. Other teachers are free to do as they please.

I'm really sorry for upsetting you. I really didn't mean that. I posted questions for teaching other students as a ESL teacher, not for my own studying, and I needed to find out the answer before the class. However, it was very difficult to get the answer in time in one site. So I tried to do my best to get an answer before the class. If you think so, I will not post any question in this forum. Agagin, I'm really sorry.

No need to be sorry; I was probably a bit too harsh on you. I'm not upsetplease feel free to post away. Besides, it's not as if I were some sort of authority figure here; I'm just another English teacher who enjoys answering people's English questions, nothing more. Post all you want.
