I understand that the verb that follows a preposition is usually a gerund, with the exception of the preposition to. So could you explain why in the following sentence, to is following by a gerund? Is it because the gerund is functioning as the object of a preposition?
In addition to studying for a Master's degree, John has two jobs.
Thanks!

Yes, you got it. In this case, studying is a gerund object of the preposition to. |
