In the increasingly heavy snowstorm, two girls were listed as ____ in the mountain area.
A. missing B, lost
I think both are right? AM I right?
A woman of the 19th century, when women were just beginning to be allowed the right to an education, was at risk from being independent and intelligent.
What does this sentence mean?
Thanks |

You can use both words here. It depends on your point of view.
The girls were lost, from their perspective, in that they did not know where they were and could not find their way to their destination.
They were missing from the point of view of their families, who did not know where they were, or what had happened to them.
Missing also means that they were not present when expected, or supposed to be...
And: Not yet confirmed as alive, but not known to be dead.
Your second sentence means that an independent, intelligent woman in the early 19th century would be regarded with suspicion in the male-dominated society of the times, because women were only just beginning to be allowed to have an education. |
