I saw #1 in a book while I think it might be wrong and #2 might be right rather than #1.
Could you tell me which one is more natural, #1 or #2?

#1 can be acceptable depending on the circumstances. For example, if you told me about something that happened in the past and I don't believe you (having not seen it myself yet), then #1's grammar form can be used.
e.g.
There is no way he learned to speak fluent Mandarin in just 3 months.
#2 deals with general possibilities, events that could have happened in the past or could happen in the future.
e.g.
