Pick a point in the distance along the line between the shortest shadow and the stick. That point is south of where you are.
What does this sentence mean? Is this point inside the shadow or just in line with the shadow but not within the shadow?
Thanks |

When your stick throws its shortest shadow the sun is directly south of your position.
So you sight along the line of the shortest shadow, over the stick; pick out a an easily recognizable feature (like a hill) in the distance. That feature will be south of you. |
