Which is correct and natural English, #1 or #2 above?
I think #2 is, but I�m not sure. |

Yes, you're right. It must be 2. them. As soon as you refer back to a pair of things that were mentioned in a previous sentence, you are not referring to the pair; you are referring to the things themselves. You must use the plural.
