Dear all:
Please help for following passage, thanks!
"The fear is that poisoned feelings on all sides could make it more
difficult, as Israel-bashing did in the 1970's, for the United States to
work with the United Nations on critical matters, like containing Iraq,
for which Americans have needed the United Nations in the past. "
What are the meanings of those phrase " poisoned feelings",
"Israel-bashing" and "containing Iraq" ?
Thanks for helping........Hana |

Poisoned feelings: Lingering feelings of bitterness and rancor that have probably resulted from various expressions of hate and animosity.
Israel-bashing: The general condemnation of Israel; making hateful, sharply critical statements concerning Israel.
Containing Iraq: Preventing Iraq from attacking or making aggressive overtures toward neighboring countries.
Hope this clears things up a bit.
