This was one of the final exam questions at our school and I just wanted to know if this sentence was grammatically correct:
"I don't spend enough time ON STUDYING."-
The answer should be, "I don't spend enough time STUDYING."
I didn't know whether to mark ON STUDYING as correct. I don't think it's grammatically incorrect, but it just doesn't sound right. I can't explain it. Can anyone out there help me with this? |

I can't say with black-and-white finality that "to spend time on doing st" is grammatically incorrect, but I can say that it is not frequently used. It is far more common to hear people say that you spend time on st, where st is a noun that is not a gerund (-ing form).
