Hello,

Please help me.

Which one is better or correct?

1. The lampposts have been turned on.
2. The street lamps have been turned on.

Thank you so much.

I would say 2. The street lamps have been turned on. I think it's better, but that doesn't mean 1. is wrong. Actually, where I'm from people usually say street lights.

Opinions may differ, but to me the word lamppost emphasizes the post (although it does include the light), whereas street lamp emphasizes the light, which of course is the thing being turned on.

In reality, both are probably OK.

Hope this helps.

Greg
