Please tell me what "the listening windows" are.
It's from "the moonspinners".
But Frances knew that I had something else to tell her, so she was not surprised when I suggested a walk by the sea, away from the listening windows of the hotel. As we walked, I told her everthing that had happened...

It just means that the windows are listening. You've probably noticed from the answers you're getting, that a lot of these phrases aren't meant literally! Windows aren't alive and sentient, so they can't actually listen - the author probably means that people on the other side of the windows (in their rooms) might be listening or could overhear their private conversation. |
