Application here means practical use, or relevance. If an argument applies then it's relevant to the situation, so if you can see the application of an argument then you know how the argument can be used.
However, 'see the application' could also mean 'make sure the application is done', or 'make sure it is applied'. So the sentence could also mean 'he was quick to make sure that an argument was used'.
I'd need to see more of the text to be sure, but I'd assume the first explanation is correct - he was quick to understand how an argument was relevant and could be used. |
