We think that the dog's overpopulation in Bangkok stems from a cultural belief that spaying and neutering are unnecessary. The problem is further compounded by the Buddhist preservation of life ethic. No method of humane euthanization is available for sick, wounded or simply unwanted dogs in Thailand. Bangkok have many, many individual dog-lovers or small groups of people who try to do their bit to relieve the suffering of Soi dogs, but this help is often limited to feeding only, not medical treatment or neutering. In any case we want to tell you that any animal lover will tell you that any dog deserves a second chance. We're just opening up that possibility up on a city level. |
