A doxology (n) (from the Greek doxa "glory, praise" + logos "word; speech") is a short hymn (song) of praise to God used in various Christian worship services.

Praise (n, v) is a very general word used in many different situations. As a noun, it refers to any expression of approval or commendation, either written or spoken, formal or informal. As a verb, it simply means to express praise. You can praise just about anyone for just about anything that you perceive as good, positive, desirable, constructive, worthwhile, admirable or commendable in some way. Praise can also be directed at God, as in church. In some churches, the word praise takes on a somewhat more serious, respectful tone; in some churches it assumes a more joyful, ebullient tone. It depends on the church. Smile

In a nutshell, praise is a very general word; a doxology is one very specific type of praise.

I hope I have expounded on these words sufficiently for you. Very Happy

Greg
