Are the following "of" structures acceptable?

1. [color=red]the book of Tom[/color]
2. This is [color=red]the school of the boys[/color].
3. He is [color=red]a friend of my father[/color].
4. [color=red]The mom of my friend[/color] is tall.

However, I will change them into the following
1. [b][color=blue]Tom's book[/color][/b]
2. This is [b][color=blue]the boys' school[/color][/b].
3. He is [b][color=blue]a friend of my father's[/color][/b].
4. [b][color=blue]My friend's mom [/color][/b]is tall.

Am I right? Please help me check them out. Thanks.

Dear www0935, #1,2,4 are correct. The simplest answer to #3 is 'my father's friend'. ok? -- Eric
