I sometimes come cross the expression "New York City".
But I seldom see "London City" other than "the city of London" Or "London".
So could I say "London City", "Liverpool City" etc?
Thank you.

As far as I know 'New York City' is just another name for New York that's used to differentiate between New York (the city) and New York (the state). Since New York (the city) is actually in New York (the state) there could be a fair amount of ambiguity - if someone says New York City you know what they're talking about!
So really it's just a semi-official name that's commonly used, and it also has a kind of cool factor now as well. Nobody (that I know of) calls London 'London City' and the same goes for Liverpool - it would sound like you were talking about a completely different city somewhere with that specific name. |

New York, New York--the city so nice, they named it twice. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
