I still cannot figure out the exact difference between the two words "journey" and "trip".
Can any native give an illustrative explanation.
By the way, shall I say "take a business trip to France" or "make a business trip to France"?
Thanks |

That's because there are no "exact" differences between journey and trip.
Both words refer to the traveling from one place to another. After that, the fun starts.
You will find plenty of people who are happy to tell you how a trip is usually this and a journey is usually that, or that a trip must be some certain thing and a journey is some other kind of thing, ad infinitum, ad nauseam.
I looked at many sources on the web, and everybody has something different to say about these two words. Much of what I found is highly subjective, contradictory and fairly useless.
About the only difference I know of that is anywhere close to being substantive is the fact that journey is by far the more common choice if you use it in a figurative way. For example:
On your journey through life, be sure to stop and smell the roses.
If you want someone to tell you how a journey is supposed to be a long trip or a trip should be on only one day or a journey is supposed to be a series of short trips yada yada yada, just google "trip vs journey" and behold the sea of slop that awaits you.

Oh, and in American English it is more common to say take a trip, although both are correct. |

Thanks for being so outspoken and genuine.
I will not be bothered to think more about it. |
