In the quote, someone said that the word 'linguistic' is not proper but I think it is correct.

1.Could you tell me if the word 'linguistic' in the context is correct?
2.If it's not proper, which word can it be replaced with?

I think it's OK.
Symbolize = represent by means of symbols.
Linguistic = relating to language or linguistics.
