Hi

Quote:
It was when Hooks was acquitted for drug possession that he experienced his religious conversion. "I'd been paying and praying to the wrong people to help me out. Then God spoke to me and said, 'Help me in.'"

Would you please tell me what 'Help me in' means in the context above? Does it mean ' Let(Help) me(God) in then I can help you(Hooks) out'? Many thanks in advance.

Sincerely
rice

It's a little bit of a pun. "Help me out" means "Help me" or "Give me help to solve this problem." Here, the writer is saying that he asked God to "Help me out," and God told him to "Help me in," that is, "Help me to get inside your heart, so I can help you," or something like that. Just a little play on words.

Thank YOU CP! Yes, that is what I construe it the way as you do, but I just can't put it understood in good English. Anyway, thanks again for the comfirmation.
