Is the "ch" in Chicago pronounced "ch" (as in "chick") or "sh" (as in "ship")? It is always "sh," as in, Shicago.
Is the "tue" in "statue" pronounced "ti-oo" or "choo"? I have always pronounced "tue" in "Tuesday" as "ti-oo". Should I say "choo" instead? In the U.S., we say "statchue" and we say "Tuesday" more like "Toosday." In Britain, "Tuesday" is more like "Tyoosday." In Australia, I've heard it pronounced "Chooseday."
We also say "sitchuation" for "situation," and similar words. An exhaustive list would be more than I could do! _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
