Dear teachers:

I saw the word "lame" in a TV series, and the translation means that someone is bored. However,I find "lame" be defined as "someone is unable to walk properly because his/her leg or foot is injured or weakin" in the dictionary .Does this word have other implication in oral speaking?

Best wishes,
Melody Very Happy

Hiya,

Your dictionary definition is correct.

However in casual, spoken English "lame" has taken on a new meaning. "Lame" can mean "poor quality", "uninteresting", "unsuccessful" or "little effort has been put into it".

e.g.
That comedian sucked! His jokes were so lame!

I checked out my friend's MySpace page but it was pretty lame.

That team's the lamest in the whole country!
