The semicolon [;] separates two independent clauses that are closely linked. Sometimes it is a substitute for a comma and conjunction.
Example: George had a suspicious mind; he suspected Susan of cheating on him.
The colon separates a clause from a subordinate clause, an explanatory clause, or a list of some sort.
Example: George had his faults: He was suspicious, paranoid, and overwrought. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
