Once it was the turn of a rabbit to be sent to the lion, but he asked the others to let him practice his device. The friends laughted at him, asking how such silly animal like he could pretend to confound the lion. Anyway, they agreed to let him try his luck.

The rabbit walked slowly to the lion and found him roaring in anger. He explained that he along with another rabbit had set out to appear before the lion, but a strange strong lion had seized the rabbit and carried him off into his resting place in a well. On hearing this, the lion was angry and ordered the rabbit to show him to the area of the enemy.

The rabbit led the lion to a well and the lion saw in the water the reflection of himself and the rabbit. He thought it was the strong enemy of his with the _______ rabbit.

The answer given is "stolen"

But I think "stolen" comes from steal, which means take something without the owner's knowledge, like what a thief does.

Therefore, I think "robbed" fits better, although there is no such answer available.

Am I right? Is there any difference between "steal" or "rob"?

Thanks

Stolen is better than robbed here, although kidnaped would be better still.

The missing rabbit was taken by the strange lion, according to the remaining rabbit. So the rabbit was stolen or kidnaped. If the rabbit had been robbed by the lion, he would have had something taken from him by the lion--maybe his watch or his wallet.
