What does it mean when someone says that you are a "walking Hallmark card"? I read that about a story where an older brother tried to get his younger brother annoyed by buying him a pair of socks as a Christmas present and here is what is says in the story:
Bobby was too dumb to understand the insult. Instead of getting mad, he said to me, "They're net-o and just what I wanted."
Yeah, sure, I thought to myself.
Bobby had to put on his new socks right away and wiggle his toes at me. "They're very warm and comfortable. Thank you," he said.
Do you see what I mean? Bobby is a walking Hallmark card.
I tried to find the definition on the Internet, but all I could find was more articles, blogs, ... using this "idiom" without any success at finding what it means.
Please, help, thank you.
P.S.
I did find one explanation, though, but it meant something in the line of a man who has no balls and likes girlish stuff. |

Hallmark is a brand of greeting card, often expressing very wholesome sentiments with depictions of a very idealized small-town America. Calling Bobby a walking Hallmark card is saying that he is just unbelievably naive and good. He gets an "insulting" pair of sox for Christmas but is enthusiastic about them, calling them "neat-o" (an old-fashioned, square word for "good") and gushing about how warm they are. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
