Hello, teachers!!

When you hear "I cut my finger," can you interpret literally that my finger was severed?

Thank you in advance.

I cut my finger means that you made an opening, incision, or wound in your finger with a sharp object such as a knife. Such a cut may be very minor or very serious, but It does not mean that your finger was severed (cut from your hand and is no longer a part of it).
