It doesn't have to be war. But sometimes,it is. As the caretakers of the family, mothers mainly control the family's course through the trouble of their daughters' adolescent years. As such, they often feel it their duty to make sure that each member survives and grows stronger.
What does the underlined phrase "as such" mean? Is it a fixed phrase?
