Dear teachers,
Can you tell me how to distinguish "happen" & " take place"as in the following sentence:
We have never discovered what took place between the couple.
Can we use "happen" here? And can we say "the accident took place"?

Yes, we can say:
We have never discovered what happened between the couple.
This statement implies that something unplanned took place between the couple.
We also can say: The accident took place on January 25, 2010.
We can use 'happen' only for the unplanned events while 'take place' can be use for both planned and unplanned events. |
