1)We visited the beautiful event where nuns devote (their life) for
the giving of unconditional love.
2) These nuns are now pledging to dedicate (their lives)
for (the) children,
the sick, the poor, and the abandoned.
3)(Their deed) of putting love for others before (their own personal life)
is thought -provoking to us all.
### To be clear, my question is which one is correct, singular or plural.
one more thing is that in Question 2 the meaning and reason of the definate article as in '(the) children' , which seems to be different from
the rest of the use of 'the' following words such as 'the sick' 'thd poor'
'the abandoned'.
thanks a lot for reading this guys. |

You devote something to
We visited the beautiful event (convent?) where nuns devote their lives to the giving of unconditional love.
These nuns are now pledging to dedicate their lives to the children, to the sick, to the poor and to the abandoned - would be the proper way to express it. You don't necessarily need the in front of children, but the repetition adds to the effect.
Their deed (act/ sacrifice) of putting love for others before their own personal lives is thought-provoking. |
