The following is one paragraph from a textbook.
I don't understand what "a child should not made to save a part of each week's allowance mean".
Generally speaking, a child should be made to save a part of each week's allowance. So I get confused.
A wise parent will not control her child's buying. If a child makes her own mistakes with her own money, she is more apt to learn from her mistakes. Also, a child should not be made to save a part of each week's allowance. An allowance should not be taken away as punishment for bad behavior. An allowance should not be thought of as pay for doing household chores. |

"Also, a child should not be made to save a part of each week's allowance" is in the passive voice. If the author had used the active voice, it would have read and mean, "Also, a parent should not make his / her child save part of his / her allowance." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

Hi Hiromi525
Have you noticed the difference in structures between the passive voice and active voice for this case?

Certain verbs are followed by object + infinitive without to. They include let, make, see, hear, feel, watch and notice.
--I made them give me the money back.
-- I didn't see you come in.
In passive versions of these structures (with make, see, hear, help, and know) the infinitive with to is used.
-- He was made to pay back the money |

I was able to understand how to make passive voice in case of using "make, see, hear, help and know".
I tried changing the bold sentence into an active voice.
We (parents) should not think of an allowance as pay for doing household chores.
Did I say that grammatically correct?
