Hello,

I was wondering how teachers address each other in schools. Do they use a title (Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms) or are they usually on a first-name basis?

Is it different if they are among teachers only or if there are students around?

How would teachers address the school principal, vice principal, secretaries, and how would those people address a teacher?

I tried to find the information through Google, but could find anything relevant.

Thank you in advance for your answer, and please, if it's not too much to ask, let me know if what you know is about American English schools, British English schools or from any other English speaking country.

Have a nice day! Very Happy

Usually they call each other by their first names.
If there are students present they refer to each other as "Mr. Smith, Mr Jones".etc.
It depends on the culture prevalent at the school. Some are more formal and others are less formal.

Thank you for your answer. I'd like to know a little bit more, though. Is your answer about American schools or are you from another English speaking country?

Also, from what you wrote it seems teachers will usually call each other by their first names, but what about the rest of the school staff? For instance, if a secretary wants to speak to a teacher, will he or she use the teacher's first name? If a teacher addresses the school principal, will the teacher use the principal's first name?
