Hello, teachers!!
The rise of men of science to great eminence in the State is a modern phenomenon.
------>
What do you mean by men of science? Are men of science scientists or learned men?
Thank you in advance. |

| Sorry. I couldn't tell you why the author chose to express him or herself that way. Actually, I'd guess it was a "himself" because he didn't say "men and women of science". I guess he liked the way his choice sounded. |
